Legal Separation

Legal Separation

Some choose to file a legal separation, rather than a divorce, because they do not wish to dissolve the marriage. Legally speaking, the process of a legal separation and a divorce are almost identical. And at any moment during the process of a legal separation, either of the parties can convert the proceedings to a divorce.  Still, we respect our clients’ wishes to file for a legal separation, not a divorce, to maintain the marriage intact.

For more information on parenting time, decision making, child support, division of property, and maintenance in a legal separation, please see the divorce section of this site.
